2012 Olympics & Paralympic Games

As you are all aware 2012 is a very special year for London, but not without its challenges!

As part of a huge effort to cope with this special event it has been decided by the Transport For London (TFL) that there will be severe delivery restrictions imposed in and around London while the Games are taking place. Their aim is to reduce London traffic by 35% by stopping all delivery vehicles making deliveries during normal working hours and restrict them to making deliveries only from the hours of 12 midnight to 6am in the morning.

This action is to try and ensure that all traffic destined for the Games venues are not delayed reaching their destination. To assist with this process there will be specific traffic lanes set up on all major routes, which are for Games traffic only and heavy fines will be imposed on any unauthorised vehicles found driving in them outside of the 6 hour window.

Furthermore, there will be additional left or right hand turn road closures imposed to help speed up the traffic flow and help security precautions. Lastly, any vehicle found stopping on any of the designated Games routes will be penalised.

The restrictions will be in force during the time both of the Games are staged allowing for 2 days either side of their start and finish. Specifically this means from Wednesday, 25th July to Tuesday, 14th August for the Olympics and from Monday, 27th August to Tuesday, 11th September for the Paralympics.

Rest assured we at Sybron are rising to the challenge and will be providing a night time (12pm – 6am) delivery service to all of our customers who are affected, which in general terms, means all of Central London and most of the London Postal Districts that we deliver to.

If you think that you will be able to receive deliveries at normal times during the Games please let us know as, obviously, we will still have a day time delivery service in operation, but bear in mind that, although you may not be situated directly in an affected area, we still might have difficulty reaching you.

If you are a small customer of ours there is the possibility of taking a bulk delivery to last you through the restrictions, but please don’t leave this to the last minute as, logistically, we will struggle to cope. Our opinion is, that if you are any kind of catering business needing regular deliveries of fresh food, you will not have much choice but to make the necessary arrangements to accept night time deliveries.

To help us plan it would be extremely helpful if you could tell us if you will be able to accept night time deliveries and if not, what alternative arrangements you have planned. Generally, it will also be helpful, possibly to both of us, if we only deliver to you a maximum of once per week during the restrictions.
